NAPLAN

All students in Years 7 and 9 in Australia are required to sit the National Assessment Program Literacy and Numeracy (NAPLAN). NAPLAN takes place over three days in March each year with testing in Literacy (Writing, Reading and Language Convention) and Numeracy (non-calculator and calculator). Parents and the school will receive a statement of performance.

NAPLAN is a useful tool for teachers to be able to identify areas in which students need help and indicate future planning and teaching needs.

At St Bede’s we encourage students to take the tests seriously and always do their best. We emphasise to students that this testing is just a snapshot of their learning at a moment in time and they should not become anxious as there is no pass or fail.

Literacy and Numeracy are the absolute basics in learning. When we can identify areas for improvement, teachers are able to address these more effectively.
