CREATIVE AND PERFORMING ARTS

Amongst a range of extra-curricular creative and performing activities at St Bede’s are the following:

ART CLUB

A lunch-time art club meets on a weekly basis.  Students with a passion for art come together to share creative ideas and to assist and learn from each other.  Students’ artwork is showcased at assemblies and student showcase evenings.

ASPIRE

ASPIRE is a diocesan program of excellence for students in the Performing Arts area. Students audition in November each year for a place in the Vocal Ensemble, Instrumental Ensemble, Drama Ensemble and Dance Ensemble. Those who are selected attend weekly rehearsals in Semester 1 to prepare for a showcase in August each year.

INSTRUMENTAL ENSEMBLES

St Bede's currently offers students the opportunity to build on their musical skills by performing in instrumental and vocal ensembles. The ensembles include:

  • Vocal Ensemble
  • Concert Band
  • Liturgical Ensemble - Years 8 - 10
  • Male Vocal Ensemble - The Kingsmen
  • Year 10 Rock Band

As student community grows more opportunities will be offered for our performing arts students. Some future ensembles may include: guitar ensemble, stage bands, jazz band and rock bands.

PERIPATETIC MUSIC PROGRAM

Part of the performing arts vision at St Bede's is to build a quality peripatetic music programme that compliments the music education of our students. Private instrumental tuition for vocals, piano, strings, percussion and woodwind.

SCHOOL MUSICAL PRODUCTIONS

Musicals are a wonderful medium for a student community to show their talents simultaneously in dance, song and acting. These productions assist with the development of self confidence, positive relationships and resilience.

SPORTS

Students at St Bede’s are provided with various opportunities to participate a variety of sporting activities to meet their needs and interests. The major focus is providing our students will the opportunities to enjoy and actively participate in physical activity.

Students are given the same opportunities as all other schools in our Diocese to participate in representative sports including, Athletics, Swimming, Cross Country, Cricket, Netball, Football (Soccer), AFL and Touch Football. With our school set to grow, we are looking forward to expanding the range of representative sports and competitions we enter.

In addition to this, every Friday afternoon the students participate in a sport of their choice. These options are strategically picked, again to meet the needs and interests of students. The options change each term to foster student engagement. Some examples include participating in Martial Arts, Gravity X, Dragon Boat Racing, Tennis, Archery, Personal Training Sessions, PCYC for Basketball and Gymnastics, Dancing, Cricket, Soccer, Netball, Touch Football and Swimming.

In addition to these options, our representative teams participate in an inter-school competition between local Catholic schools in the Newcastle area, during this sport time. These representative sport options may include, Dodge Ball, Oz Tag, Football (Soccer), Netball and Basketball.
